ASDA plans to overtake Tesco and J Sainsbury

ASDAIn an attempt to catapult Tesco as the nation's biggest non-food items retailer, ASDA is in process to open 125 stores.

ASDA, the Second-biggest supermarket in the UK, has set 2015 as its deadline to achieve the above mentioned goal.

Andy Bond, ASDA's the departing Chief Executive explained that the decision has been taken as the company was not satisfied with current sales. He further said that the company's sales grew 2.7 per cent in March as compared to 2.9 per cent of Tesco, 5.8 per cent of J Sainsbury, the second largest food retailer, and seven per cent of Wim Morrison. The market grew by 2.6 per cent.

The decision has come at a time when Chief Executive Bond is set to step down to become the part-time Chairman. According to sources, the decision to step down has nothing to do with the performance of the company.

It has been learnt that the retailer is currently eying to overtake J Sainsbury as the second biggest food retailer in the UK over the next five years.
