Athenahealth Inc., a clinical software maker, postponed the release of its fourth quarter of 2009 and the year ended December 31, 2009. Athenahealth quarterly result was scheduled to be released on Friday morning. The share price of the company fell around 14.5% and was trading at $37.30 at 1:55 p. m.

Athenahealth, a leading provider of Internet based business services for physician practices, said on late Thursday that it would delay its fourth quarter report because of an accounting review on revenue recognition.

The company said more time is needed for the 2009 audit because of the review of the timing of amortization for deferred implementation revenue. However, the company did not say when it expects to complete the review or release its report. This is the second time within last one month when the company made some adjustments with the earnings. Also, the company is planning to file a notice of late filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission by Tuesday.

While on the other hand market analysts are expecting the company to post a profit of 18 cents per share for the fourth quarter of the year. The revenue of $55 million is expected by the analysts in the fourth quarter.
