Australians want others to save the planet

Sydney - Australians are concerned about climate change but want others to pay for curbing the greenhouse gas emissions that cause it, an opinion poll released Monday said.

The privately funded Lowy Institute found one in five would not sacrifice anything to save the planet and a third said that 10 Australian dollars (8 US dollars) a month was all they would pay.

The 1,001 respondents to the annual poll relegated climate change to fifth most important issue this year from first place in 2007. The economy, employment, terrorism and food scarcity all rated higher than global warming. (dpa)
