Basic healthcare gets a green signal from Assam governmentIt comes as a news of rejoice as the Assam government passed a bill to provide the right for basic healthcare to all the needy patients.

With this, the north-eastern state Assam became a pioneer in making the treatment free for at least first 24 hours to emergency patients at both the private and government healthcares. The bill which was passed in the Assembly on March 31 ensures the Assamese a right for basic healthcare.

The Assam Public Health Bill, 2010 will fall in effect from January 2011 and the patients who cannot afford the private healthcare will be shifted to the governments units once the 24 hour duration is complete. This act takes a strict account on emergency cases making the protocol a mandatory measure for the first 24 hours to an emergency patient of any kind.

This Act also takes care of the right for appropriate medication and right of effective measures in prevention, treatment and control of epidemic and endemic diseases.
