Bharti urges TRAI to continue with the spectrum norms

Bharti-AirtelIndia's largest mobile service provider, Bharti Airtel has request the telecom regulator, TRAI to continue wit the current spectrum allocation criterion.

It said that the recommendations that have been put forward by TRAI would stop the growth momentum of Indian telecom sector.

However, the recommendations have been made to the ministry and nothing of them has been accepted as of now.

Meanwhile, Bharti has warned that the imposition of the one-time charge on the operators will be wrong. The fee is to be imposed on all the players who already have 6.2 MHz with them. Airtel said that any charges are against the old norm and should not be allocated on the previous holdings.

Bharti along with Vodafone and Idea have been opposing this recommendation for long. They are also against the recommendation that says that the imposition must be made based on the price of the recently concluded 3G auction.

In a letter sent to A Raja, telecom minister, it has said that the allocations were done in 2008 and while the licenses were bought at that time, the operator will have to pay the money at the current levels.
