Biological Smell of Women Sufficient to Lure Men
A new study, conducted by psychological scientists Saul L. Miller and Jon K. Maner from Florida State University, suggested that the most seductive scent may be the odor that the female body produces biologically at the time of ovulation because of the release of a mature egg from an ovary.
Artificial body scent is not required to lure men, hence women should forget about buying expensive scents and rely on their natural odor if they want a mate.
The research made used of a T-shirt worn by these women for three nights during various phases of their menstrual cycles.
The researchers analyzed the testosterone levels in 68 male undergraduates, aged between 18 and 23 before and after these participants inhaled deeply three times in a plastic bag containing a T-shirt. However, some were made to smell control T-shirts that had not been worn by any female participant.
The testosterone levels in males was tests using a saliva test which revealed that men who smelled t-shirts of ovulating women - those at their most fertile stage - had the highest levels of testosterone.
This study developed scent as a stimulus in contrast with the previous study which established the link between increased testosterone levels in men after they interact with an attractive woman or watch an erotic film.
