Blast rocks Kolkata; Chitpur area on high alert

Kolkata, August 3: An explosion took place in Kolkata’s Chitpur area on Sunday evening.

According to initial reports, the blast took place at a scrap iron shop today.

The actual reason behind the blast is yet to be identified. Its not confirmed yet whether it was a bomb or a gas cylinder.

But according to the reports, two children died in the blast.

Deputy Commissioner of Police P.K. Ghosh said the situation is now under control.

This is the latest in series of blasts in the country after Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Surat.

Kolkata had earlier been identified as a target for attacks by the group responsible for the Ahmedabad blasts.

On June 30, Kolkata had been placed on high alert after an e-mail from the terrorist group ‘India Mujahideen’ to a TV channel and other media houses warned of blasts at the Calcutta High Court and at a top private hospital. (ANI)
