punjab-mapMohali, Nov 28 : The body of a retired judge's son who had gone missing from his home in Punjab Nov 22 was found in a canal near Haryana's Kurukshetra town Saturday, police said.

According to the police, Arshdeep Singh, 18, went missing from his house in Punjab's Mohali town adjoining Chandigarh.

On Nov 23, his abandoned Skoda car was found near the main line of Bhakra canal adjoining Adampur village in Fatehgarh district of Punjab, around 50 km from here.

"The body was fished out by divers near Kurukshetra. We first took the body to Fatehgarh Sahib for post mortem examination as the case was registered there. Now we have brought it to Mohali and handed it over to his family members," Deputy Superintendent of Police
(Mohali) Swarandeep Singh said here Saturday evening.

"It is difficult to ascertain whether it is a case of suicide or of murder. Police is working on various theories to crack this case," he added.

Arshdeep was the son of retired judge Jasbir Singh and was staying in Phase-IX here with his family. He had completed his schooling this year and was reportedly upset with his family members over some issue.

Police have recovered one of his two mobile phones from the car.
