British airways announces direct service between Austin and LondonBritish Airways has announced direct service between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in the US and London's Heathrow airport from March of 2014.

British airways will operate a Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the route beginning with five flights a week and then increasing it to seven days a week. The airline said that it would be the first regular transatlantic flight to Austin. The planes will have business class, premium economy and economy as well as a full service bar for free.

Sean Doyle, executive vice president of the Americas for British Airways, said in a written statement that, "We are very excited to be bringing British Airways to Austin. This new route presents an important opportunity for business growth across the Atlantic, particularly in the thriving technology sector."

Austin Chamber Board Chairman Lew Little said that the new service will create around 1,100 jobs for the air service industry. He said that the service will have an economic impact of $70 million and it will increase to $74 million per years during the first three years. Austin Chambers Air Service Task Force has been working to get direct flights to Europe from the city.
