It seems that the stage is all set for the cheap cars in India. After Nano, Volkswagen group company Skoda is lining up a cheap car aimed at the masses in the country.

The Czech carmaker is planning to expand its product portfolio and will introduce its small car by the year 2011.

The car is believed to carry the price-tagged around Rs. 3 lakh. The small car from Skoda will be available in both petrol and diesel variants.
According to the company sources, the Czech carmaker would prefer to manufacture the car at its existing Aurangabad unit.

PSU power equipment maker, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged a contract worth about Rs 345 crore from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL).

The contract entails the manufacturing of steam generators for its Kakrapara atomic power project in Gujarat. This is the company’s first-ever order for manufacturing 700MWe (megawatt electric) nuclear steam generators. These steam generators will be manufactured at the Trichy plant of Bhel.

India’s Aurobindo Pharma has notified that it has secured final approval from US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for marketing Topiramate tablets.

Aurbindo will market the pills in dosages of 25mg, 50mg, 100mg and 200mg.

The drug is prescribed for the treatment of epilepsy in both children and adults.

In many cases, the drug can also be used as an antidepressant, most of the time for depressive realism. In kids, it is also prescribed for treatment of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a disorder that causes seizures and developmental delay.

Vinay Agarwal announced his resignation as CEO DISH TV.

Agarwal came into the CEO role in June 2008 after serving on the Grindwell Norton Ltd., a Saint-Gobain Group company, as the president-Abrasives.

During Agarwal’s tenure, DISH TV consolidated its position of the company. DISH TV, considered as India’s largest DTH platform, today carries over 225 channels and enjoys approx 5 million subscribers on its platform.

Here’s good news for the BSNL users. Country’s public sector telecom company, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) on Friday has joined hands with Hungama Digital Media Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. to launch bsnl.hungama.com, an entertainment broadband value added service.

Both the companies claimed that it is country’s first on-Demand Digital Entertainment Music Store and Gaming services available to broadband subscribers of BSNL.
 
The service will offer audio music, video music and gaming facilities to BSNL broadband customers at monthly charges.

UTV Software Communications Ltd, an Indian media and entertainment company, has declared that company will purchase an additional 10% stake in the UTV Global Broadcasting Ltd.

The deal is priced at Rs 329.7 million.

The shares will be purchased from UTV Software’s promoter group company, Unilazer Exports & Management Consultants Ltd.

UTV Software holds 75% of UTV Global.

UTV Software also said that its broadcasting section has met its advertising revenue objective for the year to March 2009.
