The FBI said on Tuesday that a California paraplegic used his computer skills to get video of girls and women in sex acts and blackmail them into sending him more.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Luis Mijangos was charged in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. The FBI, in a 23-page complaint, said that he may also have been involved in financial fraud, since investigators found screen shots of pages with financial information on his alleged victims.
They have identified 230 victims, 44 of them younger than 18. Mijangos allegedly used malicious software to access Web cams, Agents have said.
Mijangos allegedly e-mailed a woman identified as K.S., "I will publish the images and let your family know about your dark side ... so you better do that video, send it to me via e-mail and you will never hear from me ever. If I don't hear from you then your family will hear from me."
Mijangos, who was paralyzed in a gangland shooting, was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail. Agents said he is a Mexican national living in Orange County.
It has also been reported that the investigation began two years ago when a Glendale, Calif., woman went to police because she suspected an ex-boyfriend was stalking her. (With Inputs from Agencies)
