Camera with invisible flash developed by a team of US researchers led by an Indian

You will soon see photographic cameras with invisible flashes on the market. Yes, a camera, which captures photographs in the dark with the help of an invisible flash of infrared and ultraviolet light, has been developed by a team of US researchers led by an Indian researcher.

The camera with invisible flash dubbed as “Dark Flash Camera” has been developed by Dilip Krishnan and Rob Fergus at New York University. In the “dark flash camera,” the researchers modified a flashbulb to make it emit light over a wider range of frequencies and filter out visible light. The researchers also do away with the filters that prevent a camera’s silicon image sensor detecting IR and UV rays.

According to report published in New Scientist, Krishnan and Fergus made use of color info from a brief, flash-free photograph of the same scene taken quickly after the dark flash image to give the pictures more normal hues. Krishnan and Fergus will present their creation (Dark Flash Camera) at the Siggraph conference in New Orleans in August.
