CBI chargesheets Congress MP Vijay Darda & others in coal block scamIn its second chargesheet in the multi-crore coal blocks allocation scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has chargesheeted Congress's Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Darda, his son Devendra Darda, Nagpur-based AMR Iron & Steel Pvt. Ltd. and others as accused for deceitfully acquiring coal blocks.

The Bander coal block, the block in question, was allocated to Manoj Jayaswal-owned AMR Iron & Steel Pvt. Ltd. The CBI accused the MP and others under IPC's sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) as well as under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Apart from Darda and his son, the list of people named in the chargesheet includes AMR directors Arvind Kumar Jayaswal, Ramesh Jayaswal, Vijay Darda, and some unknown public servants of Coal Ministry.

According to the CBI, Darda facilitated the undue allocation of Bander coal block to AMR, which gave him 26 per cent free equity in return.

The agency also accused AMR Group of concealing the fact that it had already been allocated five coal blocks before it applied for the Bander coal block.

On Thursday, the CBI also filed two fresh cases. The first was filed against Nagpur-based Central Collieries Company Limited, while the second care was registered against Ved Prakash Agarwal-led Prakash Industries Ltd of Delhi. Investigators also conducted raids in Delhi, Nagpur, Mumbai and Jangir-based offices of the two companies after registering the cases.

The chargesheet and fresh cases were filed just a day before the agency had to file its status report on its investigations into the previously registered cases in the Supreme Court.
