Central Bank Asks Nationalised Banks To Reach Distant Regions

The central banking institution has asked nationalized banks to offer up banking facilities in all rural communities, remote regions and human habitations all over the country,

RBI deputy governor Subir Gokarn made this announcement.

At an outreach camp organised by RBI in a far-flung Mizoram village, Mr. Subir said that it is crucial for every adult Indian resident to have an account in the bank account since a scheduled banking institution is not only a secure place to deposit their funds, but also a channel that connects the account possessor with the payment and settlement platform allowing trouble-free transmission and payments everywhere in India.

Mr. Gokarn added that everybody can obtain loans from the banks at affordable interest rates under a variety of schemes for all life cycle needs including income generation, birth, education, wedding and demise.

"Many of these schemes are primarily targeting BPL (below poverty line) families," he added. (With Input from Agencies)
