Mangalore: Dr. C Bhaskar Rao, vice-president, Dental Council of India, inaugurated the central research lab facility at A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSMIDS), Deralakatte.

Dr Shantharam Shetty, vice –chairman, Nitte Education Trust expressed the vision and commitment of trust towards promoting research in dentistry.

The new facility shall cater to research needs of entire campus and the neighboring institutions as well. The research initiatives include periodontal, dental caries, dental material research, head and neck cancer, HIV-AIDS research etc.

Also present were Dr. B. Rajendra Prasad – principal and dean, Dr. N Sridhar Shetty – Director, Speciality Training Centre, Dr U S Krishna Nayak – Dean Academics, Dr Gopakumar R – Research Coordinator.

Dr. C Bhaskar Rao also inaugurated the India Society of Prosthodontics-Restorative-Periodontics in Mangalore.

The society aims at providing common platform for specialists of prosthodontics restorative and periodontics to interact.

Dr Bhaskar Rao, said, “this kind of inter disciplinary society is need of the hour in India to provide better dental care to patients.”

Dr Rajaram Naik was elected as founder president of the society, Dr Jayaprasad as secretary, Dr Harish Shetty as joint secretary, Dr K S Rajesh as president-elect, Dr Chetan Hegde and Dr M S Arun Kumar as vice presidents.

Senior faculty members including Dr N Shridhar Shetty, Dr Sureshchandra and Dr B R R Verma were given honor for their contribution in respective fields.
