Charlesworth quits as India's hockey consultant

Ric Charlesworth has quit Indian Hockey consultant post on Wednesday. Charlesworth quits as India's hockey consultant He was a high profile Australian guide of Hockey who was appointed to revamp hockey in India.

Ric was appointed as a technical guide of Indian Hockey by FIH. Secretary-general of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Randhir Singh said that Ric Charlesworth’s resignation has not been accepted for the time being. Any decision regarding his resignation will be taken after the meeting of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) as he was deputed by this international body.

Ric Charlesworth was demanding more increase in his salary and other perks from the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF). He was expecting$70,000 per annum from the government and another $70,000 from the FIH Olympic solidarity fund. An ad hoc committee of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) has termed his demands unreasonable and unacceptable. It also said that he was always keen to go Australia instead of serving the country where he was appointed. He used each and every excuse to go Australia during his tenure as a hockey consultant in India.

Ric Charlesworth on the other hand rejected all the allegations by hockey administrative body. He expressed his displeasure on way of administration of hockey in the country. Alleging IHF and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), he said that he was not allowed to be a part of the men's Olympic qualifiers by these bodies. Citing other reasons of his quit as hockey consultant he said that he is feeling uneasy with the nature of his work assignment and his recommendations are not being followed.

Expressing his displeasure on plans of revamping hockey he said that he is unable to work under pressure from any side.

He termed Indian players as intelligent and hardworking. He said that he had conveyed various steps to revamp hockey to KPS Gill (the ousted IHF president) but his recommendations were not taken as seriously.
