Chennai Petroleum net profit dips 21% in Q4Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL), which operates as an integrated refinery that produces fuel and specialty products primarily in India, has registered a net profit of Rs 272 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2009 against Rs 344 crore shown during the corresponding quarter in 2007-2008.

Further, total income of the company for the quarter has also decreased to Rs 4816 crore from Rs 8367 crore in the year-ago period.

For the year ended March 31, 2009, the company has posted a net loss of Rs 397 crore against net profit of Rs 1123 crore reported during the year ended March 31, 2008.

However, the total income for the year 2008-09 has increased to Rs 32,018 crore from Rs 28,147 crore shown during previous fiscal.

Shares of the company gained Rs 7.75, or 4.31%, to end at Rs 187. The total volume of shares traded was 5,108,845 at the BSE (Friday).
