A Closure Notice to Orchid Chemicals' Chennai Plant
As told by the drug maker Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals today, in concern to the surrounding environment, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has issued a closure notice to its Chennai-based manufacturing facility.
The TNPCB found the company’s Cephalosporin producing facility at Alathur in Chennai involved into some non-compliance in regard to the disposal of solid waste and thus they ordered to shut down their work there. Cephalosporin is basically the latest class of antibiotics that is useful for treating infections in different parts of the body.
It added, "The Company is in active dialogue with the TNPCB officials and is confident of resolving the issues and bringing the plant to a fully operational stage at the earliest".
Last month, Alathur facility was inspected by the US health regulator but it was finally paved with the way for continuous supply of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) to all the global markets.
Since past times, the Alathur facility is known for manufacturing a range of oral and sterile Cephalosporin APIs and for catering them to developed markets like the US, Europe and Japan.
As a final impact, the shares of this drug maker have fallen down by over 5%.
