UP CM inaugurates Rehabilitation Univ for the physically challenged
Adding one more feather to her crown, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Friday inaugurated Dr. Shakuntala Mishra Rehabilitation University for differently-abled persons in the state capital, Lucknow.
The university is to be dedicated wholly to the physically challenged.
Speaking on the inaugural occasion, Mayawati said: "While carrying out various works for the betterment of the physically-challenged persons, it was felt that there was no special institute for providing higher education to the disabled children according to their requirements."
According to Mayawati, the university is first of its kind institution in Asia.
The CM said that the university will train students to help them become self-reliant.
Mayawati also informed that an arrangement of Rs 397 crore has been made in the first phase for the university by her government.
She also added that 50 per cent seats in the university would be reserved for the disabled students in all the courses out of which 50 per cent would be reserved for the blind.
Furthermore, the university in its very first year would run six courses including B. Ed.
