'Comatose' Schumacher's accident did not happen due to faulty skis, speed: Investigators

Michael SchumacherSydney, Jan 9 - The horrific accident while skiing that has left Formula One legend  battling for his life in a hospital did not happen due to faulty skis, inadequate signage and excessive speed, according to the investigators probing the accident.

Schumacher has been in a medically-induced coma since he fell on an off-piste section between two slopes in the French ski resort of Meribel and slammed his head on a rock, prompting his evacuation to a hospital in the city of Grenoble.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, investigators said that signs marking the edge of the piste Schumacher skied off just before the accident on December 29 were in line with legal requirements, adding that the seven-time German champion appeared in control of his speed.

The investigators further said that Schumacher had deliberately skied into the off-piste area, and are seeking to determine why it happened, and whether anyone - the resort, the ski rental shop, Schumacher himself - is at fault. (ANI)
