Come Sept 1, BSNL to treat entire NE as a single zone

Here is good news for the subscribers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (Bsnl) in North East.

Come September 1, 2009, all the subscribers of BSNL in the North Eastern circle comprising of seven states viz. Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland and Mizoram will be able to make calls within the state as local calls.

An order to the effect was passed on August 12 earlier this month.

Apart from this, as per the new order, all the outgoing calls, SMSs and data charges while roaming will be charged as per the home LSA tariff and Incoming calls while Roaming in all 7 states..

It may be recalled that a NGO named Himalaya Parivar of Guwahati had approached the Union Minister for Communication and IT, New Delhi, last year with a memorandum to consider the problems of cell phone subscribers within the area of North Eastern Region.
