Comedian Amy Schumer shows her somber side

On Sunday, comedian Amy Schumer displayed her somber side when she was seen with Sen. Chuck Schumer to ask for stricter gun control laws. The ‘Trainwreck’ actress said the issue was quite personal for her since July, when a madman went into a Louisiana theater and started firing during her movie.

Schumer said, “I don't know why he picked my movie but it's something I live with every day and I vowed to never forget two lives that were tragically lost: Jillian Johnson, 33, and Mayci Breaux, 21. These women are forever in my heart”.

Sen. Charles Schumer, cousin of the actress, said that he has planned to launch a fresh push for getting Congress to vote on ‘common-sense’ gun legislation in early next year.

The Senator said that the proposed alteration would fix background checks for keeping guns out of the reach of criminals and mentally ill people, but still respects law-abiding gun owners’ rights.

The two Schumers came together on this issue for the first time in August, just 30 days after the Lafayette shooting. Sen. Schumer said that since then, at least 95 shootings have taken place countrywide. Sen. Schumer added that they can’t just sit back and let these mass shootings become common.

His cousin has called the losses ‘gut-wrenching’, including the loss of the life of NYPD officer Randolph Holder, who was shot by a career criminal. Amy Schumer said that gun violence was ripping apart America, and has ripped apart families.
