AMD begins sending dispatching Interlagos x86 processors Chip maker, AMD has said that t ahs started dispatching the `Interlagos x86 processor' to hardware makers and most of the first displacement will be intergraded in super computers.

The company started working on the processor, which is a 16-core Opteron built on a 32nm process, back in August 2010. The processor has the highest core count of any of AMD's server chips. AMD's acting chief executive, Thomas Seifert claims that the processor is the first ever to be `optimised for today's cloud datacentres'.

The new study found that despite security and reliability concerns associated to cloud computing these days, a growing number of companies are adopting the medium for various uses.

The AMD survey included IT decision-makers at 1,513 companies with 100 or more employees. The survey conducted in March involved 1,000 respondents from the US, 259 from Asia (China, India, and Singapore), and 254 from Europe (the UK, France, and Germany).

Intel to pay 1.25 billion dollars to settle AMD dispute

Intel to pay 1.25 billion dollars to settle AMD dispute San Francisco - Computer chip giant Intel is to pay smaller rival Advanced Micro Devices 1.25 million dollars to settle claims that it violated antitrust and patent laws the companies said Thursday.

The move comes just days after Intel was sued by New York state for anti-trust violations and follows a 1.5 billion fine slapped on Intel by the European Commission for anti-trust offences.

AMD to start work on new factory

AMDAMD is planning to commence construction on a new facility which would accommodate its worldwide Foundries spin-off.

Friday, an announcement made by the company specified that the revolutionary for the fresh $4.2bn manufacturing facility in upstate New York.

When it is finished, the Global Foundries' offices and manufacturing operations would be housed by the facility. It should be noted that it was the previous year when the manufacturing company spun off Global Foundries from AMD, with the help of the Advanced Technology Investment Company of Abu Dhabi.

AMD posts $330mn loss for 2nd quarter, shares fall

AMDCalifornia-based Advanced Micro Devices Inc., the no. 2 maker of personal-computer processors after Intel, has posted $330 million loss for the second quarter, making shares to dip more than 12%.

AMD's gross margins for the second quarter plunged to 37%, down from 43% in the first quarter.

The gross margins are very much critical for the chip-makers as they reflect how well companies are controlling costs. AMD's gross profit margin is shrinking, while Intel's is improving.

AMD, which has been struggling for the last two years to return to profitability, has lost 49 cents a share as compared with $1.97 a share last year.
