ComScore: Apple gaining US smartphone-market share rapidly
According to the statistics shared by comScore in its monthly report for August 2012, Samsung retained its top-notch spot in the US smartphone-market share during the month; with Apple making notable strides to catch up with its closest competitor.
Going by the data which comScore collected from over 30,000 US mobile subscribers the US smartphone-market share of Samsung remained flat during the month of August; while Apple witnessed a notable growth in its market share, even though the figures pertain to a period prior to the September announcement, and the subsequent launch, of iPhone 5.
As per the comScore statistics, the smartphone share of Apple increased by 2.1 percent during August; with the figures marking the biggest rise to be reported in mobile subscribers since the data collected in the month of April.
With its growth in smartphone-market share in August, Apple has inched closer to the second-ranking Finnish handset-maker LG, which witnessed a plunge of nearly 1 percent in its share during the three-month average period that ended in August.
While Apple is evidently set to overtake LG and bag the second place in terms of US smartphone-market share in the next monthly report from comScore, the figures for August showed that, among the other smartphone makers, HTC saw a 0.2 percent growth during the month; though Google's Motorola mobility subsidiary witnessed a plunge of 0.8 percent.
