Costco posts rise in sales in new stores

CostcoCostco Wholesale Corp. has said that sales from its newly opened stores has been very good and has pushed the overall sales of the company. It has helped not only on the domestic front but has also been beneficial for international sales as well.

The wholesale club operator saw sales in the stores opened in last one year go up by as much as 6 per cent during the month of July. The increase is higher than what the analysts had predicted.

As per a survey done by the Thomson Reuters, the average expectancy was 5.5 per cent.

While the international sales from the new stores went up by 14 per cent, for the once in the US market the rise was by 4 per cent. Increase in gas prices has proved to be beneficial for the company.

As on August 1, the total sales for the four week went up by 8 per cent to end at $5.85 billion as against $5.42 billion last year.

This is important since these are considered to be key indicators of the performance of retailers. This does not consider the once that were closed during the period of 12 months.
