Culling operation continues in Darjeeling, Siliguri

Kolkata, May 13 : West Bengal, which has been struggling to contain an outbreak of bird flu since January, continues its culling operations in the bird flu affected areas of Darjeeling and Siliguri.

Animal Resource Development department medical teams have so far culled 10,000 fowls in disease prone Maligarah, Naxalbari and upper Bagdogra in Siliguri sub-divisions and in Painakumari village which falls under Kurseong in Darjeeling District.

The department has reportedly pressed more culling teams into service to cull over 20,000 birds by tonight.

Meanwhile, the Bajanbari administration has banned the sale of poultry products.

Regional animal husbandry departments have collected samples of dead birds and sent it for testing to Kolkata and Bhopal.

Precautionary measures in the affected areas are being taken. (ANI)
