Ljubljana - Czech President Vaclav Klaus Tuesday welcomed the relaxation of tensions between Croatia and Slovakia over a border dispute.
It was good that countries could solve their differences alone, he said after talks with his Slovenian counterpart Danilo Turk in the Slovenian city of Kranj, news agency STA reported in Ljubljana.
Slovenia had blocked negotiations over Croatia's entry into the European Union for the past 10 months. But after a breakthrough in discussions over the border dispute, Slovenia said it would lift its veto on Croatia's EU membership application.
The border dispute in the northern Adriatic bay of Piran dates back to 1991 and the breakup of Yugoslavia.
There is broad support for Croatian membership in Brussels.
Klaus and Turk also discussed the Lisbon Treaty on streamlining the EU, though details were not disclosed. Both presidents said they were in favour of consistent EU policies towards energy and relations with Russia. (dpa)
