Debutant Amrita Puri Of Aisha Speaks Up

Amrita Puri The promos of the upcoming movie Aisha shows a girl with behenji look getting hip-hop makeover with the help of Sonam Kapoor. The girl is debutant actress Amrita Puri, who plays a Bengali girl Shefali Thakkur.

She is shown moaning in pain at a salon in the movie and shaping her eyebrows also seems to be alien to the girl. Amrita is a model, who acted in many plays and has no connection with film industry. She is the daughter of the head of HDFC Bank. Coming from such a corporate background, her decision of acting had faced some apprehensions.

The Mumbai girl Amrita said, "My dad said there is no security in acting career and it is not considered a long-term career option".

Amrita was a student of Bombay Scottish School and the St Xavier's College. She added, "I completed my post graduation in mass communications and then had sometime in an ad agency. After this, when I approached my dad, he said if you are so determined then go ahead".

Informing about getting the role in Aisha, Puri said, "One of theater friends sent me a message informing about the auditions, which was going on for this particular role. The character appealed me and I forwarded my portfolio to the movie' casting agent. I got the role following a round of auditions. Then I was trained in dialogue delivery, diction, and voice".

In her first shot, Amrita had to eat platefuls of spicy chopsuey at 6 am. On this, she said, "I had no idea of the operations on the sets. Since early morning, we had been shooting in New Delhi. I ended up eating lots of chopsuey after several takes and felt nauseous".

Speaking about her character, Puri informed, "I get an opportunity to play two different personas in the film as my character is a very simple girl, who gets transformed into a modern girl".

Initially, the girl was confused to debut in a film starring Sonam Kapoor and which is being produced by her father and sister Anil Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor respectively. Amrita added, "I thought a while about this as I was playing the second lead in the film. But the role demands Shefali to be with Sonam everywhere. So, I did not have any uneasiness about doing the film".

The movie is slated to release on August 6, 2010.
