December finalized for Moon Mission if ISRO misses the Oct slot
A announcement has been recently made by the former ISRO chief Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan that if in case India’s first moon mission fails to take place during October 19-26, then the launch will be rescheduled for the month of December.
He further said, “The cyclone season in the Bay of Bengal extends all through November which rules out the possibility of space launches.”
It has been learnt that Chandrayaan-I, which currently is being assembled at the ISRO Satellite Centre in Bangalore is due to be launched at the eastern coats of Sriharikota from the Satish Dhawan spacecraft.
The spacecraft that will orbit the moon at a distance of 100 km, is still has to go under the vibration and acoustic tests.
To carry out the vibration test, the assembled spacecraft would be put through a simulated environment.
The acoustic test would test the integrity of systems and also determine that the noise won’t create any disturbance or affect the functioning of any component.
While at the Indian Space Research Organization, Kasturirangan said, “The mission is progressing as per the strict timeline.”
