Del Piero renews Juve deal until 2011
Turin, Italy - Veteran Alessandro Del Piero has renewed his contract at Juventus Turin by another year until 2011, the Italian football club said on Friday.
Del Piero, 34, joined Juve in 1993 and has won the Champions League, the Intercontinental Cup and five Italian league titles with the club for which he is the alltime appearance leader and scorer.
"I am proud to have been at Juventus for all these years and I still want to write important pages in the history of the bianconeri," said del Piero.
"As I said two years ago, there exist all the possibilities to play for another two seasons at top level. Until when will I go on playing? Until I can guarantee the qualities which made me who I am in all aspects."
Del Piero aims to play at the 2010 World Cup after being part of the 2006 title-winning side. He also expressed his hope that Juve will win trophies in the next season with new players including Brazilian playmaker Diego and Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro.
"Even last year we showed that in a single match we can beat anyone meaning that we have a group of great quality. The next step is winning not only in a single match but also in a competition: championship, Champions League and Coppa Italia," he said.(dpa)
