Dell launches new open source cloud computing serviceComputing giant, Dell has announced the launch of a cloud solution based on the OpenStack platform, running on Ubuntu.

he Dell OpenStack-Powered Cloud Solution will run on Dell hardware and will be supported by he company's service and support know-how. It is aimed at both enterprise customers and service providers and is designed to offer an open-source alternative for organizations to develop their private cloud infrastructure and implement the system quickly.

The reference architecture is capable of integrating, deploying and managing IT resources for an organization. It is based on Dell PowerEdge C Series servers that includes C6100, C6105, C2100 and will also be available on Dell's new C6220 and R720. It will also use Dell's Crowbar software framework for providing services to the users.

Igoe of Dell said, "As early supporters of solutions based on open-standards like OpenStack and Hadoop, Dell remains committed to providing open, standards-based solutions that enable customers to integrate new technologies without sacrificing performance or existing IT investments."

Igoe also said that the users will be able to utilize Dell's designs in infrastructure, software, and services to build their It infrastructure at lower costs.
