Dinamo Bucharest face sanctions over crowd trouble

Dinamo Bucharest face sanctions over crowd trouble Bucharest - Dinamo Bucharest face sanctions from football's European governing body UEFA after fans forced their Europa League play-off match on Thursday evening to be abandoned.

UEFA said Friday it had ordered Dinamo Bucharest to appear before a disciplinary panel on Tuesday.

Romanian football federation officials said they feared the club could be banned from European competition for several years, a penalty which could lead to the club's financial ruin.

Dinamo were trailing 2-0 at home to Czech side Slovan Liberec in the play-off first-leg tie when supporters tried to invade the pitch in the 88th minute.

The fans had broken through security fencing, forcing Austrian referee Thomas Einwaller to abandon the match.

Tuesday's disciplinary panel comes two days before the scheduled return leg in Liberec. A UEFA official said the disciplinary panel could decide to let the 2-0 result stand or impose a heavier defeat on Dinamo. (dpa)
