Dried Tomato Product ‘FruHis’ May Prevent Prostate Cancer, Says Researchers

The researchers at the University of Missouri discovered that an organic Tomato Derivative To Fight Prostate Cancercarbohydrate called ‘FruHis,’ which is present in dehydrated tomato products, is effective in preventing prostate cancer.

For now, the study is confined to animals, and researchers will have to perform a final study on human beings in order to confirm the effectiveness of the tomato ingredient.

Till then, FruHis cannot have support from the doctor group.

Mr. Valeri Mossine, a research assistant biochemistry professor at the University of Missouri, stated, “This study was conducted in a rat model, and you cannot possibly draw any conclusions for people.”

Mr. Mossine said that before making thorough analysis on humans, it is necessary that research on animals shows positive signs.

Before this, several other studies have showed cancer fighting quality of tomatoes but accurate method or compound backing the study is absent.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) clarified that there was no evidence to back up that tomato product can lessen cancer risk.

A report by FDA issued some time back claims that, “there is no credible evidence to support qualified health claims for lycopene, as a food ingredient, component or food, or as a dietary supplement, and reduced risk of any of the cancers in the petition.”

In contrast, study experts are thinking that there could be some compound in tomatoes that might produce defense when combined with lycopene. Ongoing studies recommend that processing edible plants in any way may change its nutritionary value for better. This all happens because of changes in the organic carbohydrates.

Mr. Mossine said, “We were trying to show that a combination of two different entities in tomato products which appear out of the preparation of tomato powder might interact together.”

According to the study sequence rats in four groups were fed on 4 varieties of processed tomatoes with one group being fed on FruHis additional to Tomatoes. The group fed a diet of tomato paste plus additional FruHis demonstrated the longest survival rate, compared to other groups.

“Our study shows that one of these carbohydrates that we were suspecting interacts with lycopene, at least in that model that we were using,” claimed Mossine.
