Earthquake shocks people in Orissa and Andaman Island

MeteorologicalAn earthquake of 7.8 magnitude on the Richter scale created panic in the coastal regions of Orissa and some parts of Andaman Island at around 1.30 in the Tuesday morning. The earthquake has been recorded by the Indian Meteorological Department.

Meanwhile, a Tsunami alert was instantly alarmed by the IMD, but the same was withdrawn after few hours.

In a statement given by the Indian Meteorological Department, Director S C Sahu said that the earthquake was in the Andaman Sea and occurred at the depth of around 0.33 km. The earthquake took place at around 265 km north of Port Blair.

The quake was strong enough to send terror in the minds of the people as they quickly moved out of their homes to open places. Some other states like Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri and Ganjam also experienced the earthquake. However, there was no human loss noted by the state government so far.

Align of the major earthquake was recorded at 14.09 degree north (latitude) and 93.02 east (longitude).

According to the sources, some parts of the Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh also experienced the earthquake. Countries like Myanmar, Bhutan, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand also felt the earthquake for several minutes as well.
