London, July 12 - India cemented their advantage in the first Test in Trent Bridge against England as the hosts suffered another batting collapse.

Having reached 134-1 on a docile pitch, England lost six wickets for 68 runs after lunch.

All rounder Stuart Broad provided some hope to the hosts as he led a recovery with a brisk 47 and a last-wicket stand of 54 between Joe Root and James Anderson also helped England gain a little pace on their home turf, The BBC reported.

However, England collapsed on 352-9, 105 runs short of their target.

Root top-scored for England with 78 not out, Gary Ballance made 71 and Sam Robson scored 59 before he was controversially given out lbw when umpire Bruce Oxenford failed to spot an inside edge.

Matt Prior also fell victim of an umpiring error, but the visitors' insistence that the decision review system should not be used in their series left both batsmen powerless to appeal.

Indian fast-medium bowler Ishant Sharma delivered a superb spell of 3-21 runs in 35 balls.

England's slump puts India in a position to dictate the remainder of the match despite the host's bowlers repeatedly bemoaning about a pitch that lacked life.

Root said that England has got a lot of inexperience and they would only get better and learn more the more they play, adding that they have got to learn quickly at this level. (ANI)
