Etihad Airways orders engines worth $5 billion
United Arab Emirates based Etihad Airways has informed that it has ordered 123 engines from GE Aviation and Engine Alliance, worth a combined consideration of $5 billion.
The company authorities stated in a communiqué that the engines would be used to power aircraft ordered from Boeing and Airbus at last year's Farnborough Air Show in July.
The sources said that GE Aviation will supply 78 engines for Boeing 787s, while Engine Alliance, a joint venture between General Electric and United Technologies Corp unit Pratt Whitney will supply 45 engines for Airbus A380s.
As per media reports, Britain's Rolls-Royce had bagged $190 million share in an order from Etihad for V2500 engines to power a total of 20 Airbus A320 aircraft. The contract includes a long-term service agreement.
