Exiled Tibetans blame china for self-immolations in their homeland Dharamsala, Jan 21 : Exiled Tibetans living in Dharamsala have slammed Beijing over its repressive policies that has compelled 95 of their brothers and sisters back home to resort to self-immolation over constant violation of their human rights.

Recently, a 22-year-old Tibetan man set himself on fire on in Sangchu region of Kanlho in eastern Tibet leaving behind his family.

Expressing grief over the recent self-immolations, the speaker of Tibetan Parliament in-Exile, Penpa Tsering, expressed his grief over the increasing incidents.

"Even weather wise it is a very difficult situation and ongoing suppression, one more self immolation, has raised the number of self immolations to 98 (sic) so far and we still have two more, unconfirmed report so by as for now today.

We appeal to the Chinese government to listen to the cries of the Tibetans and also the world community to impress upon the Chinese leadership for the long term solution of Tibet," said Tsering.

Scores of Tibetan youth had reportedly committed self-immolation against what they termed as rising atrocities by Chinese administration.

Tsebey, a 22-year-old Tibetan man set himself on fire around 1 pm (IST) on Saturday (January 12) in Sangchu region of Kanlho in eastern Tibet.

According to the media reports, Tsebey was the first Tibetan to set himself on fire protesting against the Chinese government in 2013.

Local Tibetans took his body to a safe location before Chinese security authorities arrived. His body was later carried away to his home village.

The surge in self-immolations in Tibet has heightened in recent months.

Indian-based rights groups said there had been a massive security clampdown in Tibet and Tibetan areas of China.

On his part, the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, in India since 1959, has pressed China to investigate self-immolations by Tibetans. (ANI)
