Ferry hits pier at Staten Island, New York

A ferry crashed into a pier and around 37 people were injured at Staten Island in New York. It was caused by a mechanical fault and no one was seriously injured. The ferry crashed into the George Ferry Terminal in the evening on Saturday.

Earlier Andrew J. Barberi ferry was involved in an accident and 11 people were dead as it banged into a pier on Staten Island in 2003. The commissioner of Department of Transport, New York city, Mrs. Janette Sadik-Khan has informed that the captain of the ferry could not control the speed of the vehicle due to some reason after seeing the dock and dashed into it.

She has also said that there was some mechanical problem in the ferry but no serious injuries happened.

Only 17 out of 37 were taken to the hospital. The ferry was filled with 252 passengers and 18 crews. But as per a passenger the ferry was moving at a higher speed and ran to the back end of the boat.
