FIAT looks at a bright options in India

FIATThe Italian auto maker Fiat SpA that started sourcing components from the Indian market for its global ambitions close to two years ago has now decided to make its India strategy even more aggressive to expand the business from next year.

Niraj Hans, who is on the top position at Fiat's purchasing office in the country said that the there is a management commitment to increase the sourcing of Fiat products from the Indian market in the 2011-14. However, Hans also pointed out the fact that the activity will only be in the effect once the plan is approved. It may be noted here that the Italian auto major set up the office in the Indian market in the month of May 2008 with an aim to source _250 million
(Rs1,415 crore) worth of components by the year 2011.

The plan is a part of the overall ambition of sourcing components worth _8.5 billion from best-cost countries. The company confirms that it has sourced components only worth _100 million of supplies from India, part of which was impacted by the impact of the slowdown. But Hans is still very much confident that the company will clock the figure of _250 million.
