First ever shooting WC to be held in India cancelled

Shooting Sport FederationAs had been predicted, the first ever Pistol and Rifle world cup scheduled to be held in New Delhi has been cancelled.

According to International Shooting Sport Federation, India withdrew its application to host the event in March next year at the Karni Singh shooting range in Delhi which is currently under renovation for Commonwealth Games.

The Karni Singh shooting range was scheduled to host two international events before the Commonwealth Games in October next year.

Confirming the development, ISSF website said: "The 2010 ISSF World Cup in New Delhi has been cancelled. The organising committee of the New Delhi World Cup Stage withdrew its application in an official communication to the ISSF….the organisers in New Delhi revised their availability to host the competition."

Notably, it was for the first time that India was picked as the spot to host the event of such standing.

Baljit Singh Sethi, secretary-general, National Rifle Association of India, also admitted that with construction work at the Karni Singh Ranges way behind schedule they could not take a chance.
