Five more bodies found in serial killer inquiry in Indonesia

Jakarta, IndonesiaJakarta - Indonesian police on Monday unearthed five more bodies buried outside the house of an alleged serial killer in east Java, bringing the number of victims to 10, police and media reports said.

Two weeks ago, the capital city police arrested Verry Idham Henyansyah after a bag of body parts was discovered on a roadside in southern Jakarta. The suitcase contained a torso, legs, a head and neck.

Henyansyah, 30, who is also known as Ryan and is a Koran recital teacher, confessed to police to have murdered and dismembered Herry Santoso on July 11.

Police said Henyansyah committed the killing and dismembered the body out of jealously because Santoso had established a relationship with his boyfriend.

Henyansyah also confessed to the killings of four more people, police said, and officers last week unearthed four bodies buried outside his parents' home in the east Java district of Jombang.

During the search last week, police also seized a crowbar, hoe and other objects that investigators believe were used to kill the victims.

Police then urged residents living near Henyansyah to report any people they knew who had contact with the suspect and then disappeared. A number of families reported relatives missing, leading to confessions by Henyansyah of having killed five more people, including a 3-year-old girl and her mother, police said.

Thousands of residents stood nearby Monday as parts of the five bodies were unearthed from four different graves.

Police were also scheduled to unearth a septic tank outside the house as suspicion mounted that Henyansyah had killed more people and dumped their bodies in it, the private radio station Elshinta quoted police investigators as saying.

Indonesia has executed four murderers in the past month, including a self-styled shaman who killed 42 women and drank their saliva in a black magic ritual intended to increase his powers. (dpa)
