Food inflation falls to 6.60 per centThe food inflation in India has fallen to 6.60 per cent for the week ended November 26 indicating that the prices of food items are now moderating bringing some relief to people in the country facing high inflation in recent months.

The food inflation in India, which is measured by the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), was recorded at 8 per cent in the week till November 19. The food inflation was 8.93 per cent in the corresponding period previous year.

The prices of onions fell by 39.20 per cent year-on-year during the week, potato prices fell 15.75 per cent and wheat prices also recorded a fall of by 4.70 per cent. Vegetables are cheaper by 1.25 per cent but other food items become more expensive in the country.

The prices pulses of increased13 per cent during the week, milk prices increased 11.02 per cent and eggs, meat and fish become 10.04 per cent more expensive. Fruits also became 10.72 per cent more expensive and cereal prices were up by 1.68 per cent.

Overall primary articles inflation was recorded at 6.92 per cent during the week compared to 7.74 per cent in the previous week. Inflation in the non-food segment, which includes fibres, oilseeds and minerals, was recorded at 1.37 per cent during the week against 2.14 per cent.
