Foreclosure filings in U.S. drop in January but surpass 300000

Real-EstateU. S. in January saw a consecutive eleventh month with more than 300000 foreclosure filings, according to a report released by foreclosure property site RealtyTrac. In the month of January there were reported 315716 foreclosure filings in total in the states.

Though, these numbers are reported up by 15% comparing to the same month of 2009, but on the other hand when we compare these numbers with the previous month, we find it encouraging. The foreclosure filings were dropped by 9.67% as compared to the month of December 2009. It means fewer people received default notices, had their homes up for auction and had their homes repossessed by banks in January compared to December.

According to the report by RealtyTrac one in every 409 U. S. homes received a foreclosure filing this January.

The most affected states of the country are California, Florida, Arizona, Illinois, Michigan and Texas. Together they received about 60% of the nation's foreclosure filings. California reported the highest number of filings with 71817 filings this month.

"January foreclosure numbers are exhibiting a pattern very similar to a year ago: a double digit percentage jump in December foreclosure activity followed by a 10 percent drop in January," James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac, said.
