Drug maker Glenmark Generics, a group firm of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, has announced that it has got ANDA sanction from the United States Food and Drug Administration (U.S. FDA) for Verapamil Extended Release tablets.

Under the approval, Verapamil Extended Release tablets will be available in the market in 240mg strength.

Verapamil is a generic version drug which is indicated for the management of essential hypertension. The total sales of Verapamil for the 12-month ended June 2009 were $65 million.

The sources informed that the conglomerate will soon start selling and distribution of drug in the US market.

With this approval, Glenmark's current portfolio expands to a total of 49 generic products authorized for distribution in the U.S. market.
