Google begins limited field trial of personalized search feature
On Monday, Internet search giant Google commenced a limited field testing of a personalized search mechanism, which essentially integrates the web search function across a few popular Google services, including Gmail, Google Drive and Google Calendar.
The under-trail search feature works in such a manner that the users' searches on Google. com also comprise relevant information as well as messages from Gmail; along with Google Drive's files, documents, and spreadsheets, which are displayed on the right hand side of the results page.
About the limited field trial of the personalized search feature, Bram Moolenaar - a software engineer at Google - said in a Monday blog post that the testing marked an extension of the trials which were started in August, and integrated Google search with Gmail search.
Moolenaar further added that other services like Google Drive and Google calendar had now been brought on for the extended trial - which can be accessed only by the UK users with @gmail.com addresses - because users who had tested the integration of Gmail and Google. com search had requested for the integration of search across other services as well.
Highlighting the advantage of the personalized search feature, Moolenaar said in the blog post: "When you're looking for something, you should be able to find what you need quickly and easily without needing to think about where it might be, whether it's in your email or out on the public web."
