Google can show Images of SAS headquarters - MoD

Paul Keetch, City’s MPThe Ministry of Defense in UK said today that there is no need to remove the images of the Special Air Service headquarters from the Google Street View application. The images of SAS showed on Google got a strong criticism in United Kingdom that they could be helpful in breaching the security of the SAS headquarters in Credenhill base.

“It would be impractical to ask Google to withdraw images as they can be easily obtained from other sources over which we have no influence,” said a spokeswoman of MoD.

Earlier, Mr. Paul Keetch, City’s MP, blamed Google to act irresponsibly by publishing photos of the SAS headquarters on the internet. He said that this would encourage a terrorist attack.

Google had launched Street View application in Britain last year. Through Street View application, viewers can see towns and cities through a series of panoramic street level photographs, captured by camera-mounted cars.

On the issue Google said that the company launched Street View in 20 countries without breaching security.
