Government To Raise FDI Cap In DTH To 74%

The union government is planning to increase Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Government To Raise FDI Cap In DTH To 74%the Direct to Home (DTH) service. The ministry of information and broadcasting (I&B) recommended 74 percent FDI in DTH service from the existing cap of 49 percent. 

This is informed by additional secretary, Asha Swarup at IDNS conference. The proposed move of government is aimed to bring parity between DTH and telecom services in the country.

The government would also review the license fees for the DTH service. The DTH service providers are currently paying 10 percent of their revenue as a license fees. 

The telecom companies are currently paying license fees on their adjusted gross revenue (AGR). The Telecom regulatory Authority of India has already recommended 8 percent fees on the AGR of DTH service provider.

The telecom ministry would also revise guidelines for HITS and satellite radio while the new guideline map for TV and satellite radio is ready to come very soon. The TRAI Chairman, Mr Nripendra Misra also stressed the need to set a special digital fund to help cable providers of the country.
