Gujarat’s FMCG firm Amul registers 27.7 % growthAmul, the prestigious brand of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (GCMMF), posted a double-digit growth rate of 27.7 per cent against 22.9 per cent last year for the third year in a row.
The corporation has created a milestone, posting a record turnover of Rs 6711.31 crore in 2008-09 on account of its sharp focus on the local dairy market of the country.

Amul’s report, titled ‘35th Annual Report 2008-09’,  gives credit the co-operative management for shielding the rural economy from the adverse impact of global slowdown at a time when dairy markets across the globe have been facing the heat of global slowdown.

GCMMF Chairman, P G Bhatol said that Amul reported growth rate of 14.87 per cent in the milk procurement in 2008-09 with highest procurement at 114.24 lakh kilograms per day during January 2009. Amul again emerged as a top ice cream brand in India, reporting a growth rate of 16 per cent.

RS Sodhi, Chief General Manager of GCMMF, said, "So far, there is only one FMCG company ahead of Amul in retail sector. But in food sector, we have become the largest retail company with a turnover of over Rs 6,700 crore."
