HC dismisses PIL against land allocation for Nano project

Tata Nano plant in SingurGujarat High Court, in a major relief to the state government and Tata Motors, dismissed a PIL challenging allocation of 1100 acres of land to Tata group for shifting Nano plant from Singur in West Bengal to Sanand in Gujarat.

A division bench of the Gujarat high court headed by Chief Justice, KS Radhakrishnan said that the court found no violation of norms from government's side and questioned the standing of the petitioner, the Rashtriya Kisan Dal.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice KS Radhakrishnan and Akil Kureshi, while rejecting the allegations, observed," The petition is not in public interest and intended only for media attention and publicity."

The court had already rejected the petition filed by villagers demanding more compensation for the acquired land for small car project.

Earlier in October, NGO's Chairman, KH Thaker leveled serious allegations against state government for materializing the agreement. He alleged that the state suffered a loss of Rs 1796.95 crore on accounts to various concessions extended to Tata group.
