Denying the nuisance of blames against the clinical trials, which supposedly caused the deaths of three tribal girls in Khammam district, Health Minister D Nagender said that the two girls committed suicide whereas the third passed away due to viral fever.
This came following the news, which held the vaccine responsible for the death of the girls. Vaccine HPV was given for cervical cancer.
As the reports suggested, the brutal project was being run on a pilot test basis, which involved vaccination of girls aged between 10-14 years suffering from cervical cancer.
The Minister said, "The vaccines, which were manufactured by an Australian company, were approved by the Drug Control Authority of India. The vaccination was taken up by the Andhra Pradesh Government, and the Gujarat government in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research and an international non-profit organisation Path, conducting study on cervical cancer."
